General Conference postponement

Africa Initiative Speaks on United Methodist General Conference Priorities

Methodist Voices on April 19, 2024

The following was shared on April 16 by the independent Africa Initiative in The United Methodist Church led by Jerry Kulah.

The Africa Initiative, an orthodox advocacy movement within the three United Methodist Central Conferences of Africa, convened a prayer retreat April 8-12 in Nairobi, Kenya for African delegates to the upcoming 2024 General Conference scheduled to meet April 23 in Charlotte, NC. Themed “Reclaiming our Identity”, the retreat drew from Matthew 5:13-16.

The retreat statement, included in full below in its original PDF form, outlines priorities to oppose regionalization of the United Methodist Church, to reject both changes to the definition of marriage and petitions attempting to liberalize sexual ethics, to support disaffiliation petitions, and to request episcopal elections within three months after General Conference.
