John Wesley Institute Continues Good News Magazine

The John Wesley Institute (JWI) is a formational program of IRD that serves as a hub for scholars and church leaders committed to producing teaching materials, videos, and holding conferences all intended to equip the laity. It was launched in 2021.

When I heard that Good News was concluding their work at the end of this month I was saddened to think that the magazine, a great formational resource for the Methodist faithful, would cease to be published. So I decided to do something about it and began conversations about bringing the magazine into JWI. Here’s the announcement from Good News about the transfer of the magazine to JWI.

There will be two significant changes, the first that the magazine will be completely focused on formation and catechesis, the second that it will be pan-Wesleyan, incorporating voices from across the tradition.

We have retained Steve Beard as editor and are very excited to have him join the JWI.

I’m excited that we’re able to build upon the great work of Good News and continue the publication of the magazine as a resource for Wesleyan faithful of all stripes. As with everything the JWI undertakes, our focus is the good news of Jesus Christ and the wholeness that he has promised us in this life and the magazine will be yet another avenue to share that message.

Praise the Lord. I’m all on board. I know a number of others who are excited.

This is the best news that I have heard in weeks, maybe months. I was just telling my wife the other day how much I wished that somehow Good News Magazine would continue since it has been such an influential source of spiritual formation for us and for many of our fellow believers. I am overjoyed that it will be continuing in a new format and will be broadening is base of authors as well as its outreach to the entire pan-Wesleyan communion.

I quit Good News when they refused to approve comments labeling homosexual relationships as evil. To me they became part of the problem, not wanting to put those engaging in gross immorality out of the church. The result was the new United Methodism where such is approved of – even gay ministers and bishops. These false teachers got everything they wanted. Those who believed in the authority of the Bible had to leave and often without their property.
