Against Catholic Integralism

Mark Tooley on June 22, 2023

The Institute on Religion and Democracy hosted “Against Catholic Integralism,” featuring Kevin Vallier on June 15, 2023. Integralism advocates a Catholic confessional state making non-Catholics less than equal citizens. There are rising Calvinist voices advocating a similar Protestant confessional state that would punish heresy and blasphemy while privileging some Protestants.

Vallier is Associate Professor of Philosophy at Bowling Green State University, and author of Trust in a Polarized Age. He is completing a book on religious anti-liberalisms, especially Catholic integralism, about which he speaks in the video below. The book, All the Kingdoms of the World: On Radical Religious Alternatives to Liberalism, will be released on September 1, 2023 by Oxford University Press.

Listen in to Vallier as he debunks increasing popular illiberal religious perspectives that reject religious liberty for all:
