On Sudan Freedom in 2020 – A Transcript

on August 7, 2020

We recently posted the link to my interview with Tony Perkins. Tony is the President of the Family Research Council and Vice Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. We spoke about the status of religious freedom in Sudan on his radio show, Washington Watch.

Sudan has come a long way, but still has a long way to go. Those of us who have been advocates for the marginalized and persecuted people groups of Sudan know that they still do not have equal status with the other Sudanese. In some cases these groups are still being attacked by proxy militias. We have a responsibility to continue putting on pressure.

If Sudan can come this far, it can continue to improve its human rights and religious freedom. And it will, as long as the world community does not grow complacent.

Attached is the transcript of my discussion with Tony Perkins for those who would rather read than listen. Many thanks to IRD summer intern, Kate Cvancara for transcribing. She has also written many terrific blog posts here on Juicy Ecumenism!

This will be followed in the days to come by blog posts about Sudan’s marginalized people groups. They still need justice and they could add so much to Sudan’s religious and racial diversity. Keep them, and Sudan as a whole, in your prayers.
