American Christian History Today

on August 5, 2020

Here’s my chat with Heath Carter, professor of American Christianity at Princeton Theological Seminary in New Jersey. He’s also the co-editor of the Library of Religious Biography by Eerdman’s, which across 30 years has published spiritual histories of such notables as Abraham Lincoln, Charles Wesley, and Emily Dickinson. Carter is himself writing a history of the Social Gospel in America, On Earth as it is in Heaven: Social Christians and the Fight to End American Inequality (under contract with Oxford University Press).

Carter and I discuss the impact of the Social Gospel today, to what extent Christianity in America is now in decline versus earlier times, and where today’s young seminarians are theologically.

I enjoyed this conversation and I know you will too!
