Owen Strachan

Southern Baptist Thinker Owen Strachan

on May 14, 2020

Here’s my interview with Southern Baptist theologian Owen Strachan of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City. He directs the school’s Center for Public Theology. Midwestern is one of America’s largest seminaries.

Strachan is a popular contributor to IRD’s magazine, Providence: A Journal of Christianity & American Foreign Policy. His recent review of the WWI film 1917 has been our best read article of 2020 so far. He’s also written about the 80th anniversary of Winston Churchill’s accession to power. And he’s reviewed a new biography of Charles de Gaulle.

Besides his fascination with war and courageous statesmen, Strachan here discusses the state of American evangelicalism, his support for gender complementarianism, his thoughts on gay Christians, his hopes for Southern Baptists, and his attitude toward generating controversy.

Enjoy this lively conversation.

Please post a transcript for those of us who prefer to read rather than watch videos. Thank you.
