A Millennial’s Musings on Together 2016

on July 21, 2016

On July 16, 2016 nearly 350,000 Christians gathered at the National Mall to pray for our country at an event called Together 2016.  Although I was unable to attend, the enormity of such a Christian gathering caught my interest.

There were speakers and singers including, Lecrae, Hillsong United, Michael W. Smith, Christine Caine, Lou Engle, Tony Evans and Josh McDowell, just to name a few.  Pope Francis even promoted the event! But it’s not the celebrites and popular pastors that caught my attention, it was the makeup of the worshipers themselves that has me stopped to take notice.

The majority of Together 2016 participants were Millennials, which makes it even that much more amazing to this 20-year-old woman.

If, like me, you didn’t get to attend the event in person, please just imagine for a moment what this gathering must have looked like.  Amidst every problem going on in the world—gritty political races, government coups, terrorist attacks, and racial tensions across the US—young Christians of every race, cultural background, and denomination flooded the National Mall to worship the Lord and pray in unity.

To see my fellow young Christians take a stand and publically worship and pray, rather than aggressively protest, is worth pausing to admire. The event organizer, Nick Hall, asked the millennials in attendance to help get the hashtag #JesusChangesEverything trending worldwide. Saturday that goal succeeded as the hashtag became one of the top trending tweets on Twitter even hours after the event ended.

I’m so thankful for the organizers of Together 2016. Maybe this event is the spark of something new. I hope and pray we see events emulating “Together 2016” pop up all around the country.  Goodness knows, we need some positive news on our screens.

The Millennial generation is often cast in a negative light, but I hope we as the Church can stop and recognize the unashamed passion for Jesus displayed in the heart of the nation last Saturday by young Christians. I, for one, am extremely proud of the hundreds of thousands of Millennials who took time out together to celebrate Jesus Christ. Next year, I hope to worship alongside them.

one thing is that although thousands of young confused seek the Lord wholeheartedly, and another thing is what is at the head of those who organized the event. Nick Hall Francisco and the ecumenical elite. . there were two Jesus. One needs to pay toll Maria, and the other biblical Jesus with open arms with direct access. The truth precedes love..godblessyou
