Asia Bibi: Imprisoned in Pakistan

on June 22, 2016

Asia Bibi is a Pakistani woman who has been imprisoned for 7 years as a result of false blasphemy charges leveled against her when she used her Muslim coworkers’ water glass. She was accused of defiling their water and was told she needed to convert to Islam. Her response was, “I will not convert. I believe in my religion and Jesus Christ. And why should I be the one to convert and not you?”

Seven years later, and Bibi still sits in prison in fear for her life. Initially, she was sentenced to death by hanging, but recently that sentence was overturned. A new investigation of her charges was supposed to begin, but that hasn’t happened.

Even after 7 years of being imprisoned Bibi’s faith and her family’s faith in Christ remains strong. They pray regularly and have faith that Asia will be released. Around Christmastime, her family quoted her as saying,

Christmas is the celebration of God’s mercy. I forgive my persecutors, those who have falsely accused me, and I await their forgiveness. . . . Jesus made this happy day for me and has accepted my prayers. . . . But, although I have been in prison for seven years, I do not hate those who did me wrong. . . . I pray that Jesus Christ will grant peace to the whole world.

There are different ways that you can help Asia Bibi and aid in returning her home to her family. The Voice of the Martyrs has a petition addressed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan that you can add your name to at www.callformercy.com. You can write a letter to Asia Bibi here. You may also contact the Embassy of Pakistan with the following information:

I urge you to help Asia by doing at least one of the options above. I also urge you to tell your friends and family about her story to get her story out and give them the information above to help.

Most importantly, keep Asia Bibi, her husband, and two daughters in your prayers. They are all in danger from radical Islamists in their country. Pray specifically for a judge to have the courage and fearlessness to order her release. It is time for the truth to be revealed and for Asia to be back with her family.
