Nigeria: Easter Bombings Confirm Religiously-Motivated Terror Campaign

The Institute on Religion and Democracy this week is joining with several other organizations in the following statement sponsored by The Justice for Jos Project and Jubilee Campaign, denouncing “ill-informed statements” by the U.S. State Department regarding the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram that is targeting Christians across Nigeria’s northern and middle belt states. Last week IRD released its own statement to the press lauding U.S. Representatives Peter King (R-NY) and Patrick Meehan (R-PA) for urging the Obama Administration to add Boko Haram to the list of terrorist organizations and criticizing the State Department for casting Boko Haram as victims rather than perpetrators. Since that time Islamists have once again attacked Christians in northern Nigeria. On Easter Sunday, a suicide car bomber detonated his explosives on a busy road near the All Nations Christian Assembly Church and the ECWA Good News Church as worshippers were celebrating Christ’s resurrection. At least 38 people were killed and many more suffered serious injuries.
