Prayer Points for the Nuba Mountains

on July 7, 2011

Following 20 years of civil war, Sudanese leaders signed the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005, which set the stage for a referendum on separation in January 9, 2011. Six months ago the people of South Sudan, with over 99% in favor, unanimously voted to separate from the north and form an independent nation. But in March reports emerged of fighting along disputed border areas. By early June, there were several confirmed reports of ethnic cleansing in the Nuba Mountain, also known as South Kordofan. Thus far, the international community has been inactive.

On Saturday, July 9, 2011, Christians from across the United States and around the world are taking a stand- on their knees. At 10:00 am, gather with your friends, church, and community to pray for an end to ethnic cleansing in the Nuba Mountains.

According to Scripture, we know prayer changes impossible situations into favorable outcomes that bring glory to God. The Bible is replete with examples of God acting when man do nothing. James 5: 16 punctuates this point, “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much” (NKJV).  Frankly, we need to see a miracle. As you petition God for breakthrough, focus on the following items:

  • Cessation of violence against indigenous black Africans
  • Uninhibited movement of humanitarian aid
  • Protection for humanitarian aid workers
  • Pray that Khartoum would honor the CPA
  • Safety and sustenance for civilians in Internally Displaced Person (IDP) camps
  • South Sudan president Salva Kiir and Sudan president Omar al-Bashir
