Religious Left Regrets Obama Support?

Does the religious left have buyer’s remorse over President Obama? The old religious left and emerging evangelical left both supported him enthusiastically. The former, being largely pacifist, is angry over Obama’s troop surge in Afghanistan. Also they are disappointed over Obamacare’s failures. The latter had hopes that the new administration would work to reduce abortion. The inclusion of abortion funding in the U.S. Senate version of Obamacare was disillusioning. Read Connor Ewing’s article about liberal evangelist Tony Campolo’s disenchantment over Obama.

In contrast, of course, the old religious left (such as the United Methodist lobby) was angry that the U.S. House version of Obamacare did NOT include abortion funding!

Meanwhile, the Episcopal Church is accelerating its campaign against conservative Anglicans. It would seem that it is preparing litigation against the conservative Diocese of South Carolina, which has remained in the Episcopal Church but was suspected of potentially allowing some congregations to depart with their property. And the Episcopal Church’s presiding bishop flew to Britain to implore the Church of England not in any way to recognize the new Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). That mission seems to have failed, as the Church of England approved a resolution that was favorable to ACNA. Read Jeff Walton’s article.

Speaking of persecution, and more severe than what we here in the U.S. ever experience, please pray for the Coptic Christians of Egypt. Although Egypt’s government is mild by Middle East standards, this nation’s Christians must constantly deal with the threat of radical Islam. Read Faith McDonnell’s article.
