Churches Funding Acorn?!

You’ve heard about the young investigators who recently caught ACORN activists offering advice about how to open a brothel with underage Central American girls. Did you know that the Presbyterian Church USA has funded ACORN? Here’s our news release.

Years ago, the United Methodist Board of Global Ministries funded ACORN. More recently, in 2004, the National Council of Churches (NCC) worked with ACORN in voter drives during the presidential campaign. Our church dollars at work. Amazing!

Jeff Walton recently covered the NCC’s board meeting, which called for unilateral nuclear disarmament by the U.S. while demanding nothing of Iran or North Korea, both of whom are a clear threat. Here’s Jeff’s article and here’s my commentary.

Meanwhile, the NCC is VERY concerned about town hall meetings where Americans are objecting to a government take-over of health care. One NCC official even sniffed “racism” in the air. Here’s Jeff’s article on that.

Besides Obamacare, the Religious Left continues to tout liberalized immigration laws and open borders. Here’s an article by IRD correspondent Eric Lemasters on a recent event by the Center for American Progress featuring clergy urging wide open borders.

The Middle East also remains a topic of deep interest for the old Religious Left and the rising Evangelical Left. Naturally, they are critical of Israel while largely silent or soft-spoken about Palestinian misdeeds.Here’s a recent article I wrote. Note the involvement of officials from National Association of Evangelicals and Christianity Today.

Of course, the battles over marriage and sex continue within the churches. Alan Wisdom covered a recent Presbyterian committee that sadly urged their church to abandon biblical teachings about homosexuality.Read his article. Apparently, there is even a special hymn to celebrate “coming out” as a gift of the Holy Spirit.  Such a “gift” is hardly holy!

On a more reverent note, Jim Tonkowich wrote about remembering 9-11 and reflected on the ongoing threat of radical Islam to our freedoms.  Faith McDonnell specifically wrote about radical Islam’s challenge to Christians in Sudan and Nigeria.

And finally, the current issue of World magazine generously profiles my years of battle for reform in our churches. So many battles, yet the Lord gives us hope!

Let’s remember that whatever afflicts our churches, the Holy Spirit still protects God’s truth and summons us to faithfulness. Please continue to pray and work for accountability in our churches, that the world might hear and heed the Gospel.
