CANS mobilizes church members to press for a coherent U.S. foreign policy response to Sudan, including appropriated genocide intervention in Darfur and other marginalized areas, and strong support for the fledgling democracy in Southern Sudan and the Nuba Mountains, leading to a just peace and religious freedom for all of Sudan.
For nearly four decades the Church in Southern Sudan and the Nuba Mountains stood firm for the gospel in spite of relentless persecution. Over two million people died and over 5 million were displaced by the radical Islamist regime in Khartoum. Thanks to international efforts led by the United States, a comprehensive peace agreement between the National Islamic Front regime and the SPLA ended Khartoum’s active devastation of the South. But the regime’s genocide in Darfur continues.
IRD has partnered with the Sudanese Church since 1994. We work with key Sudanese leaders, research and draft resolutions for church conventions, testify for asylum hearings for Sudanese refugees and educate citizens and members of Congress about Khartoum’s plan for the Islamization and Arabization of all of Sudan.
