In his 1760 sermon called “Heaviness through Manifold Temptations,” John Wesley wrote that, “whatever strengthens our faith increases our hope.” And they do go together, faith and hope. We have faith in Jesus Christ and what he has done for us, and in that we have hope not only for the present but also for eternity. How many times have we heard Easter sermons in which we hear that “we are people of hope!”
The mission of IRD’s John Wesley Institute is to equip the laity with the depth, the goodness, the transforming message of the Christian faith. This is the only reason that we exist. In Wesley’s words, we exist to strengthen the faith of the church. Faith is a gift of God, but we can work to strengthen it, learning more and more what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and living in the hope that he offers.
To help better communicate this mission, we at the JWI have created a video below about the Institute that I would like to share with you this week. Please give it a look and share it with friends and colleagues interested in equipping the Wesleyan movement for a faithful future.
Thank you for your support for the JWI, partnering with us to equip the church for faithful witness.
