The Two Tasks: Ambassador Charles Malik’s Historic Challenge to American Christians

Habib Malik, educator and son of Charles Malik, Lebanon’s first ambassador to the United States and one of the architects of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, joined me in conversation earlier this month at Church of the Resurrection on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C.

In the video below, we discuss the enduring importance of Ambassador Malik’s 1980 address at Wheaton College, “The Two Tasks,” in which he challenged evangelical Christians to help renew the mind of Western culture by engaging in the intellectual life of the universities.

“No civilization can endure with its mind being as confused and disordered as ours is today,” the elder Malik said. “Save the university and you save Western civilization.”
