Religious Alternatives to Democracy?

Mark Tooley on September 18, 2023

Last Thursday I joined a panel at the Cato Institute to discuss Kevin Vallier’s new book All the Kingdoms of the World: On Radical Religious Alternatives to Liberalism. He focuses mostly on integralism, a movement popular with some especially young Catholic men that advocates for a society in which the Roman Catholic Church is legally paramount, as in the Middle Ages. In my response, I mostly described Protestant equivalents of integralism, popular among some young Calvinist men. I contrast these systems with IRD’s advocacy for democracy, religious freedom and human rights for all people. I hope you enjoy this conversation.

Listened to some of it, but it’s hard to connect with a book cover having a lily white Jesus, followed by a panel of all white men.

    Mark,

Please include a plus-sized woman in your next discussion panel so that Diane has someone to relate to.

    Sincerely,
