A Wesleyan/Reformed Conversation

On Thursday, September 15th the Institute on Religion & Democracy hosted Dr. Scott Redd of Reformed Theological Seminary and Dr. Ryan Danker of the John Wesley Institute in conversation on the theological similarities and differences between the Wesleyan and Reformed worldviews.

I enjoyed this conversation. When I left my local UMC congregation in mid-2020, I searched for a year before ultimately landing in a conservative Reformed church. So much of the Reformed theology makes logical sense to me, but I miss the more “Catholic” aspects of the Methodist tradition. I’ve been fascinated by the differences and in most cases, overwhelming similarities between Wesley and the Reformed teaching. I’m really interested in whether Wesleyanism is properly categorized as Arminian – the discussion here seems to indicate not, but other articles on the blog seem to disagree.
