Mike McCurry, who is United Methodist, was press spokesman for President Bill Clinton and later studied at Wesley Seminary in Washington, where he now teaches public theology. He and I have known each for about 12 years. Obviously we have political and theological differences, but we always enjoy good conversation. Here I interview him about United Methodism’s future as it heads towards likely schism. He and I largely agree that this division will happen and is for the best. I hope you enjoy this video, towards the end of which Mike does a brief Bernie Sanders impersonation.

Seems like Mike is making the divisive issues political and ignoring the moral aspect. He refers to Wesley’s’ four pillars. Shouldn’t scripture be the prime standard for deciding right and wrong?

Thank you, Mark, for this interview. I had the chance to interview Mike for our local TV program as part of Christ Church Memphis Global Ministry. Although we, too, differ on many things, he is a generous, kind man with a brilliant mind. I enjoyed the interview very much.
