George Weigel delivered the 2019 Diane Knippers Memorial Lecture on November 19 at the Institute on Religion and Democracy in Washington, D.C. themed “The National Interest and the National Purpose.”
“Can we find instances of a national patriotism that reach out in support of others, for the sake of both national interest and a broad sense of national purpose?” Weigel, Senior Fellow and William E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies at the Ethics and Public Policy Center, asks.
This event honored Diane Knippers, who passed away from cancer in 2005 after 12 years as IRD president and nearly a quarter century at the Institute on Religion & Democracy.
