VIDEO: Former Klansman Turned Racial Reconciliation Advocate Redeemed in Christ

On November 6, 2019, the Institute on Religion and Democracy hosted Tom Tarrants, a former violent Klansman now turned Christian advocate of racial reconciliation. Tarrants discussed his violent past, imprisonment, conversion to Christianity, ministry leadership, and new memoir Consumed by Hate, Redeemed by Love, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers.

After serving twelve years as president and nine years as Vice President of the C.S. Lewis Institute, Tarrants retired from his position as Vice President for Ministry and Director, Washington Area Fellows Program in June 2019. He is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Church Alliance and a member of the Evangelical Theological Society.
