Washington, DC—The refugee crisis unfolding across the Middle East and Europe is far from the first mass movement of people fleeing war, famine or oppression. Decades ago, millions were displaced in Sudan’s war against black African Christians and others who resisted the Islamist government. Thousands of children fled through Ethiopia and to Kenyan refugee camps, becoming known collectively as “Lost Boys”.

Former Lost Boy the Reverend John Chol Daau, will share from his new book, God’s Refugee. Daau, a priest in the Episcopal Church of South Sudan and Sudan, is part of the Archbishop’s task force to bring healing, forgiveness, and reconciliation in South Sudan, and he is the founder of The Good Shepherd Foundation, helping to educate children (Good Shepherd Academy), adults (Good Shepherd College and Seminary), and to train leaders in South Sudan (Good Shepherd Leadership Training Center). He also founded the first Christian newspaper in South Sudan, The Christian Times.

Lunch will be provided for guests who RSVP by noon Tuesday, April 19, to Faith McDonnell at: fmcdonnell@TheIRD.org

Copies of God’s Refugee will be available for purchase and signing. Reverend John Chol Daau will also be available for interviews.

IRD Religious Liberty Director Faith J.H. McDonnell commented:

“IRD has been working with John Chol Daau for some 15 years. We never cease to be amazed by all that he has done for the Kingdom of God.

“As a former Lost Boy, familiar with the ravages of jihad in South Sudan, and never flinching from the truth of that evil, John demonstrates Christ’s love and the power of the Cross to enable forgiveness and reconciliation that is so desperately needed in South Sudan today.”
