During the Cold War, many assumed that the often pro-Soviet World Council of Churches (WCC), to which many of our denominations belonged, was simply naïve. Now, a new book by a Bulgarian scholar shows that the Soviet KGB and Bulgarian intelligence successfully manipulated the WCC.  Here’s my article.

Sadly, our denominations still belong to the WCC, which has not changed, even though the Soviet Union is now thankfully gone.

Meanwhile, many of our churches here in America continue to confuse the Gospel with political causes of the left. Zealous liberal church support for Obamacare is one recent example. Justifiably, U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly thanked the United Methodist Church for backing Obamacare. Here’s my article. And here’s how an ultra-liberal United Methodist congregation in San Francisco politicized Palm Sunday by hosting Speaker Pelosi gush about Obamacare. Here’s my article.

Most liberal churches do not thrive when they exchange the Gospel for politics. Unfortunately, a New York Episcopal diocese has so shriveled that it had to sell a building to a Muslim group. Apparently the diocese forbade the sale of it to any conservative Anglicans! God forbid! Here’s Faith McDonnell’s article.

Read also Faith’s article about a Christian Chinese businessman recently sent to prison for 3 years for the “crime” of selling Bibles. Pray for him! Faith also wrote a piece about tyrannical Iran’s attempts to serve on the UN’s Human Rights Commission, which would be outrageous. Here’s that article.

In some good news, the sometimes increasingly liberal National Association of Evangelicals recently hosted a solid event about upholding traditional Christian teachings about sex and abortion. Please read Cindy Evans’ article here. Cindy is with the United Methodist Task Force on Abortion and Sexuality.

You may have read about the recent big march in Washington, D.C. for liberalized immigration policies. Some church groups want NO border enforcement at all. United Methodist Bishop Minerva Carcaño of Phoenix helped lead the march. Here’s my story. My assistant Connor Ewing attended a pre-march rally, organized by the Mainline churches, and here is his on-site report.

Finally, read Jeff Walton’s coverage of homosexual activist Episcopal Bishop Gene Robinson becoming a senior fellow at the liberal Center for American Progress here in Washington, D.C. and founded by former Bill Clinton aide John Podesta. Also read Jeff’s piece about the Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem’s speech at Washington National Cathedral. His remarks were not as anti-Israel as are typical for some officials.

IRD’s staff has been very busy this past week covering what our churches are up to! We thank God for this opportunity to serve Him, and we thank you for your prayers and support. We rely on your contributions for our ministry.  Please donate today to ensure IRD’s continued reporting and advocacy on behalf of traditional Christian beliefs within our churches. You can donate easily here.
