The Institute on Religion and Democracy would like to offer its condolences to the friends and family of Dr. D. James Kennedy, who passed away on September 5, 2007 at the age of 76.

Dr. Kennedy served as the pastor of Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for nearly 50 years. During that time, Kennedy started Coral Ridge Ministries-a television and radio ministry that now claims over 400 television outlets and nearly 750 radio stations that air its programming. Nearly 3.5 million people watch Coral Ridge Ministries programming every week.
A pioneer in lay evangelism, Kennedy created Evangelism Explosion International, an organization dedicated to training Christians to share their faith in everyday situations, in 1970.
In 1989, Kennedy established Knox Theological Seminary, a school of theology in the Presbyterian Church in America. A separate ministry focused on developing Christian leadership in government, the Kennedy Center for Christian Statesmanship, was opened in Washington, DC, in 1995.
IRD is grateful to Dr. Kennedy for his contributions to church renewal through an evangelism that changed both individuals and the culture. May God grant his family peace and comfort at this time of loss.
