Jo Anne Lyon

Jo Anne Lyon & Wesleyan Church

on May 14, 2020

Here’s my interview with former Wesleyan Church General Superintendent Jo Anne Lyon, who’s also vice chair of the National Association of Evangelicals. Lyon was the first woman to hold her denominations’s top post, although that church has ordained women since its founding in the mid 19th century.

The Wesleyan Church splintered from the main Methodist denomination over slavery and the authority of bishops, among other issues. It has remained theologically evangelical, unlike United Methodism, and it is growing.

Lyon shares her own story among the Wesleyans and explains their current focus areas, which includes outreach to immigrants.

I hope you enjoy our conversation.

Because we drink wine (like our Lord did), my wife and I were offered second-class membership in the Wesleyan Church. We are now happy members of the PCA.

I’m hard of hearing. Prefer transcripts. Videos do me no good at all. Also would like to know of any Wesleyan church in greater Batin Rouge Louisiana area.
