Values Voter Keynote Embraces Diversity by Defending Life

on October 2, 2014

All it takes is for one secular spectator or left-leaning religious commentator on Twitter to sound the “lack of diversity” alarm on conservative Christians for the accusations to start flying. We can expect, of course, the 140 characters of a tweet to disregard data a showing the most diverse denominations in the country are conservative Christian (Assemblies of God is a prime example).

It should come as a surprise to no one that these criticisms are based on preconceived notions. In fact, diversity was highlighted by a keynote speaker at one of the largest conservative Christian gatherings in the nation, just not in the lingo and mantras the left would suspect. At this year’s Family Research Council’s 2014 Values Voter Summit, one speaker stood up for diversity by standing up for unborn lives

“In New York State, helped by Planned Parenthood, more black babies are aborted than born alive. For every 1,000 born alive, 1,223 are aborted,” said Ryan Bomberger. “And yet the NAACP calls this reproductive justice and they partner with the nation’s largest abortion chain Planned Parenthood.”

Ryan Bomberger and his wife Bethany are the co-founders of the Radiance Foundation, an organization dedicated to affirming every life. In Ryan’s address, he encouraged the gathering of faithful Christians to take an uncompromising stance for values, in spite of cultural expectations, even in the face of hostile opposition.

The Bombergers certainly practice what they preach. In fact, the couple’s stance for their convictions hasn’t gone without serious obstacles. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) filed suit against the Radiance Foundation because the Bombergers exposed the NAACP’s complicit efforts alongside Planned Parenthood to advance the abortion of black babies in a parody. To Ryan, the NAACP’s lawsuit against him is ironic because he is “black or just as black as Obama.”

“It’s amazing as conservatives, as Christians [has] anybody ever felt like someone was trying to silence you?” asked Bomberger. “I know that it’s a weird feeling. But the reality is, we don’t have a luxury about ourselves to be silent. Amen?”

Bomberger called on the listening men and women, young and old, black or white to press on speaking about God’s truth in love for the sake of Jesus Christ. Ryan asked, “How many of you know that Hell breaks loose when we speak truth?”

“Abortion does not advance colored people,” exclaimed Bomberger. “Because we’re all colored people.” For this reason, Ryan and Bethany Bomberger have dedicated their lives to helping others look beyond color and focus on the value and meaning of every life, no matter how seemingly insignificant. As for himself, Ryan says he self-identifies first and foremost “as a person who serves the Lord.”
