Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus…Oh sorry, it’s not Santa, it’s the American Atheists with yet another attack on Christmas.

Slap an Arian Day, or the Feast of St. Nicholas of Myra

by (@bjgingerich) December 6, 2013

Today we commemorate St. Nicholas of Myra, whose resume boasts enough miracles for him to be called the “Wonderworker” in some parts of Christendom. Even before he became the Coca-Cola chugging world-traveler and reindeer master, he was known for his compassion for children and his sacrificial generosity. According to one story, he saved three daughters […]

Pope Francis, and the Heretics

David Gibson has argued that Pope Francis is breathing new life into the legacy of Cardinal Bernardin. I, respectfully, disagree.

Tony Jones, the Emergent Puritan

by (@bjgingerich) July 26, 2013

Tony Jones is no inquisitor. He acts more like a congressional whip than anything else. However, unlike a political figure, he seems more earnest. He’s not just pushing a party line passed down from on high. He wants an emergence theology, pure and undefiled from privilege, “injustice,” cowardice, consumerism, and heavy authority. In short, Tony Jones is a Puritan.

ELCA partnership with United Methodism: “Full Communion” or Denominational Suicide Pact?

by (@JohnLomperis) May 3, 2013

By John Lomperis (@JohnLomperis) United Methodists and liberal Lutherans should unite against orthodox Christians! That was the message conveyed by Mark Hanson, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), to members of the Connectional Table of the United Methodist Church, who met earlier this week. Bishop Hanson’s opportunity to briefly address the […]

Jedi Religion and the New Hubris

by (@bjgingerich) December 12, 2012

According to a recent Telegraph article, “Jedi” is the largest alternative faith in England and Wales (trailing behind Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism, and Buddhism). Many have been surprised by this sudden spike of a faith derived from the popular Star Wars franchise. I doubt that there’s been a massive rise in midi-chlorian counts or […]

Progressives Would Rain on St. Augustine’s Parade

by (@bjgingerich) August 28, 2012

“Beauty grows in you to the extent that love grows, because charity itself is the soul’s beauty.” ~ St. Augustine of Hippo I’m glad I checked my Churchman’s Ordo Kalendar this morning. It’s the feast day of St. Augustine of Hippo! One of the greatest gifts of my classical liberal arts education was the guided […]

Is Your God like Mass Murderer James Holmes?

by (@lukemoon1) August 2, 2012

Kevin Miller is hardly a household name amongst Evangelicals, but many of us are familiar with his work on films such as Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed starring Ben Stein; the Anti-Christian Zionist rant With God on Our Side; and domestic human trafficking exposé Sex+Money: A National Search for Human Worth.  These, along with his other films […]

PCUSA Pastor on Evangelism: “Knock It Off”

by (@bjgingerich) July 2, 2012

Before the heavy proceedings of General Assembly 2012 went under way, members of the Presbyterian Church (USA) took the opportunity to visit various churches in Pittsburgh. Progressives flocked to the gorgeous East Liberty Presbyterian Church (ELPC), Pittburgh’s flagship congregation for liberal theology. It turns out that the packed sanctuary would be about 2/3 to 3/4 […]
