Nancy Pelosi Once More Distorts Her Faith

on July 31, 2014

Representative Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is a hypocrite. There is no other way around it when one professes to be Catholic and yet is in such ardent support for abortion. But Pelosi continues to further showcase her hypocrisy whenever she makes remarks on protecting the children and the innocent. For who could be more innocent than an unborn child?

The particular instance of late refers to Pelosi’s statements on immigration reform. A piece published July 30 for RedState.com  highlights such distortions Pelosi has made when it comes to her faith and “The Word.” The title is an apt one, “Nancy Pelosi’s Perversion of Piety: A Page Out of the Proof-texting Playbook.”

And one paragraph accurately explains that title best of all:

One common method of persuasion is Biblical proof-texting. In order to justify an argument, a word, phrase or text is taken out of context. The text can then be used as a pretext for any argument that anyone chooses to make. But to understand scripture, context is paramount. Without it, a text’s historical and original Greek or Hebrew meaning is lost.

The piece contains the following statements from Pelosi, with links, where she is responding to the masses of children entering the Untied States illegally:

In response to the mass influx of children being smuggled, rented, and abused in order to illegally enter the U.S., Pelosi claims:

  • “Baby Jesus was a refugee from violence, let us not turn away from his children.”
  • “Immigration reform is a manifestation of us living the Gospel,” because of “what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person.”
  • “What would we do if Moses had not been accepted by the Pharaohs family? We would not have the Ten Commandments for starters.”

The piece also offers compelling responses to rebut such claims which Pelosi seems to root in her faith:

Those who have read “The Word,” know that Jesus (nor His Earthly parents) never did anything illegal, and, more importantly, is God. Mary, an unwed teenager (whom Pelosi most likely would have encouraged to abort Baby Jesus) was returning to Bethlehem with her betrothed Joseph for a census. There was no violence; just no room in the inn.

Moses was one of few boys who lived when the King of Egypt ordered all newborn boys be killed to reduce the Hebrew population.

LifeNews.com also reported on Pelosi’s statements while referencing the RedState.com piece:

The hypocrisy strewn throughout Pelosi’s words is almost palpable. While she urged the public to use the border crisis as an “opportunity to show who we are as Americans, that we do respect people for their dignity and worth,” she continues to champion for more than a million abortion deaths every year.

The Congresswoman can certainly not be the only one to take the Bible out of context to suit her agenda, whether done on purpose or not. But it is worth pointing out the hypocrisy that surfaces when it is done so with such an air of authority and entitlement.

It is especially noteworthy that Pelosi references Baby Moses and the Gospel. RedState.com already offers an explanation as to why the Moses reference is shaky, but it is worth pointing out that the Ten Commandments do not say something along the lines of ‘Thou Shall Welcome Illegal Immigrants’ but do say ‘Thou Shall Not Kill.’ Especially considering that Nancy Pelosi already recognizes that an unborn child is a life, she should realize that this commandment applies to the unborn as well.

Some will point to how the Bible never mentions ‘abortion’ and other weak arguments to provide that those who are religious can still support abortion. And while the Bible may not actually use the term, there are plenty of passages suggesting a pro-life viewpoint, including and especially in the Gospel.

Pelosi’s own statement, about “living the Gospel” based on “what the Bible tells us about the dignity and worth of every person[,]” not only can, but should apply to extending that sense of recognition that life is sacred, and to use Pelosi’s own words, that “…every person has spark of divinity in them.” If we are all “God’s children[,]” then all of us deserve the right to life, not just those whose mothers have decided to give birth.

While such refugee children should indeed be treated with dignity and respect as human persons, that can be done by respecting national borders and the laws regarding them. Advocating for the abortion of children who are even more innocent in that they have not even yet been born could not be further from a form of respect.

Jesus was a refugee, in Egypt, to escape the violence of Herod sending soldiers to slaughter the young boys in Bethlehem after the magi told him of his birth. I think that is the passage Ms. Pelosi was referring to. It is in Matthew 2:13-18.

That being said, I do agree with the writer on the other point, that all human beings are created in the image of God and we as a society should protect the most vulnerable, the unborn. Ms. Pelosi does not seem to have a consistent ethic.

I will say I agree with you about how Jesus was a refugee in Egypt, though I think Pelosi could/should have clarified better. And I do think that the passage from RedState.com did have an overall good message.

And it’s not just the authors (not sure if you were referring to RedState.com or myself) who say that we are all created in God’s images. Judging from some of her statements mentioned, I would say it’s safe to say Pelosi thinks this way too. Which just makes her even more hypocritical I think…

What faith? Her faith is non-existant. She is anathema to the Christian faith and should already have been excommunicated hundrends of times. She supports abortion, partial-birth abortion, all artificial contraception, the contraceptive mandate, divorce, homosexuality, same-sex marriage. I wouldn`t be surprised at all if she comes out as an atheist like Barney Frank did.

I don’t disagree, but she still claims to have a Catholic faith. That’s the main problem here.

Mrs Pelosi is like the antichrist, she is an evil person, a habitual liar, opportunist, anarchist, and marxist.
