Together We Can Thunder for the People of Sudan

on October 2, 2013

As part of the Act for Sudan alliance, IRD is asking you to consider joining the National Call-In Day for Sudan that takes place tomorrow, October 3, from 9AM-5PM.

Act for Sudan says:

As you probably know, peaceful protests in Khartoum and around the country of Sudan are being met with brutal government force. The demonstrations began after the government lifted fuel subsidies and progressed to demanding that al-Bashir and his government resign to pave the way toward a democratic transformation. In response the army and security forces have used teargas and live bullets, killing and wounding civilians. They have conducted mass arrests, denied medical care to the wounded, conducted home raids, and targeted students.

As part of its Obama’s Stained Legacy campaign, Act for Sudan remembers that in 2007, while running for president, then Senator Obama said that genocide is “a stain on our souls” and promised that “as a president of the United States I don’t intend to abandon people or turn a blind eye to slaughter.”

Yet today, more than four years into his presidency, President Obama continues to oversee a disastrous approach to the ongoing genocide in Sudan. This approach has failed to prevent the tragic loss of countless lives and the mass displacement and starvation of countless more innocent people. Unless President Obama ACTS NOW to protect innocent civilians from the genocidal leaders of Sudan, he will ultimately be remembered for his stained legacy on genocide.

To highlight the Call-In Day, Act for Sudan and STAND student anti-genocide activists are sponsoring a thunderclap for Sudan. Thunderclap is “the first crowd-speaking platform that helps people be heard by saying something together” via social media. If enough people support our thunderclap for Sudan, it “will blast out a timed Facebook Post or Tweet from all the supporters simultaneously, creating a wave of attention.” At present, we still need 40 more people to join in order to make the thunderclap happen. Will you be one of them?

This is all you need to do:

  1. Pledge to call the White House on Thursday by joining our thunderclap here. If only 100 people will pledge, we will reach tens of thousands via social media.
  2. After you’ve pledged, share this message to encourage others to join: #Sudan needs our voices. Pledge to join Natl Call In Day Thurs Oct 3 http://thndr.it/15m3SvL via @actforsudan #SudanRevolts

Everyone always asks “what can I do?” to help the people of Sudan. Here is one action you can take easily, but that will make the social media universe thunder with concern for Sudan.
