Eric Metaxas Quits Evangelical Immigration Table

Popular evangelical author and commentator Eric Metaxas has quit the Evangelical Immigration Table (EIT), citing its ties to leftist billionaire George Soros.

Metaxas Tweeted his announcement late this afternoon:  “Did you know George Soros was behind the Immigration thing I signed but then had my name taken off? Yikes.”

Attached was a link to a report about Soros funding for the National Immigration Forum, of which EIT is a program.  Likely very few of the prominent evangelicals endorsing EIT knew of its ultimate ties to leftist donors like Soros.  Reportedly several signers have expressed surprise that EIT is effectively supporting the “Gang of 8” immigration legislation currently before the U.S. Senate, which would first legalize 11 million illegal immigrants before seeking greater border security.  These signers had thought they were only endorsing broad principles, which included border security.

Metaxas has authored popular biographies of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and William Wilberforce.  Last year he was featured at the National Prayer Breakfast with President Obama. He is also the voice of Breakpoint radio commentary founded by the late Chuck Colson.

[…] Some very good and distinguished evangelical leaders are part of EIT. But they seem not to know the details of EIT’s being part of the Soros funded NIF and are perhaps relying on NIF for incomplete information. Hopefully these leaders will press for more complete information and perhaps reconsider their involvement, like Eric Metaxas, who quit EIT earlier this week. […]

Well, I agree with Pat Buchnana right wing groups like those of the Bush family that promote immirgation reform are just as bad. In fact, both George and Jeb comments about Hispanic immirgants working harder than the white populatoin or having more children have almost made me think of leaving the Republicans who are more interested in providing labor for big business or get a new voting bloc which will mainly go to the Democratics.
