Assemblies of God General Superintendent George O. Wood has released this statement responding to Jeff Walton’s coverage of the recent Society of Pentecostal Studies meeting in Seattle. At that event, the society’s then president, Paul Alexander, who’s ordained in the Assemblies of God, made controversial remarks about race, theology and sex.

“Dr. Paul Alexander is a faculty member of Palmer Seminary and a licensed Assemblies of God minister. On April 8, I received a copy of statements attributed to him at the Society for Pentecostal Studies (SPS) meeting. At the time of those remarks, Dr. Alexander served as president of SPS.

I am waiting for a written transcript to be completed from his address at SPS. In the meantime, I have made his district superintendent aware of this matter. Our General Council Bylaws, Article X, provide for a process when allegations are made against a credentialed minister.

I trust that there will never be a day in the Assemblies of God when a credentialed minister can continue to hold credentials and support any form of sexual immorality.”

Can you say where this was released? I’ve looked in various places and can’t seem to find it anywhere.

Dr. Wood placed it on his Facebook page in response to a question about this matter. That is the only place I have been able to find it. I appreciate how quickly he has responded to this.

Paul Alexander is being mis-resepresented here in innumerable ways. The slander and character defamation is unwarranted and cruel. I don’t know you Mr. Jeff Walton, but I would caution you~and those of you who claim Christ likeness~ to be very careful casting your stones. Jesus is not contained in your small theology.

Here is a blog of Alexander’s that shows the accuracy of IRD’s assessment about liberation theology.

    Bravo to Alexander!
Assembly of God is nothing but a religious racist institution
