Earlier today, IRD was saddened to learn of Judge Robert Bork’s death. The one-time Supreme Court nominee, Bork was a lauded from many corners of the public square. U.S. Senator Jeff Sessions remembered him as a “fierce defender of our constitutional heritage and the rule of law.” IRD will always recall the Borks as close friends.
IRD President Mark Tooley commented:
“Words can scarcely convey our appreciation, and we offer our deepest condolences to his wife and former longtime IRD board member, Mary Ellen, as well as Judge Bork’s surviving family members. Our thoughts and prayers will be with them in the coming days. We are grateful for the friendship and support of the Borks for IRD across many years. Judge Bork later in life joined his wife in a deep Catholic faith that enriched his love for justice and for America. We pray God will bless his memory and legacy.”
Bork was a victim of one of the biggest propaganda campaigns in the history of American politics. Ted Kennedy told outright lies about Mr. Bork and the media let him get away with it. Shame on them!!
Bork was a decent human being who had a brilliant legal mind. His book, Slouching Toward Gomorrah, is proving to be prophetic. I also recommend it.
RIP, Mr. Bork.
Hell is a better place—interesting notion?
Bork was a treasure – could have been a NATIONAL treasure, but thanks to the saintly Ted Kennedy and his ilk (including six Republican senators, shame on them), Bork didn’t get the post he so richly deserved. Imagine a Supreme Court with nine Borks. His book Slouching Toward Gomorrah deserves a read – great book, although a downer, since it’s full of truth
Mr. Bork is in a better place, one where he won’t be crossing paths with Ted Kennedy.
