What follows is the official announcement for the recently published Queen James BiblePlease enjoy…or not.

Homosexuality in The Bible

Homosexuality was first mentioned in the Bible in 1946 in the Revised Standard Version. There is no mention of or reference to homosexuality in any Bible prior to this – only interpretations have been made. Anti-LGBT Bible interpretations commonly cite only eight verses in the Bible that they interpret to mean homosexuality is a sin; Eight verses in a book of thousands!

The Queen James Bible seeks to resolve interpretive ambiguity in the Bible as it pertains to homosexuality: We edited those eight verses in a way that makes homophobic interpretations impossible.

Who is Queen James?

The King James Bible is the most popular Bible of all time, and arguably the most important English language document of all time. The brainchild and namesake of King James I, who wanted an English language Bible that all could own and read, it has been in print for over 400 years and has brought more people to Christ than any other Bible translation. Commonly known to biographers but often surprising to most Christians, King James I was a well-known bisexual. Though he did marry a woman, his many gay relationships were so well-known that amongst some of his friends and court, he was known as “Queen James.” It is in his great debt and honor that we name The Queen James Bible so.

A Fabulous Bible

The QJB is a big, fabulous Bible. It is printed and bound in the United States on thick, high-quality paper in a beautiful, readable typeface. It is the perfect Bible for ceremony, study, sermon, gift-giving, or simply to put on display in the home or Church.

You can’t choose your sexuality, but you can choose Jesus. Now you can choose a Bible, too.

Editorial notes can be found here. They speak volumes about the assumptions and philosophy of the translators, especially to Christians familiar with scriptural interpretation and hermeneutics.

No fiction writer could invent stuff this bizarre…

    Three things:

    1. A few years back, a group called Priests for Equality published The Inclusive Bible, an openly feminist version which includes footnotes in which the translators admit to mistranslating, in the name of “compassion.” It has not been a runaway bestseller (and that is understatement).

    2. What they say about King James I is true. I’ve read a lot of history about this period. James did indeed marry and father several children, but he almost always had a “favorite,” an attractive young man who shared his bed. (If you know what James looked like, or know anything about his “personal habits,” you would know these young men must’ve been really desperate for promotions.) James would tire of one after awhile and take up with another. Had someone at the court being keeping track (if only we had diaries written by the servants!), it’s pretty certain that James spent lots more nights sharing his bed with a man than with his wife. People alive at the time often joked that King Elizabeth had been succeeded by Queen James. But so what? That has nothing to do with this new Bible. Are the translators aware that James was one of the least popular rulers that England ever had? (He persecuted Puritans, which to a liberal might count as a plus.)

    3. The assertion that “homosexuality was first mentioned in the Bible in 1946” is deep BS. Technically, the WORD wasn’t used in previous versions, but so what? Our ancestors understood what 1 Corinthians 6:9, Romans 1:27, and 1 Timothy 1:10 were referring to, whatever version they were reading.

I don’t expect this hogwash to make a big splash, although the usual lefty pastors will add it to their libraries, where it will become another dust magnet, since liberals don’t read the Bible anyway.

I do think we ought to make a mental note of this event, however. Given the tilt of our nutty culture, I can well imagine that in the next, say, 20 or 30 years, this version’s (mis)translation of the gay passages may be mandated in all published Bibles. Laugh at the Queen James Bible (I did), but don’t laugh at the rise of this pseudo-Christianity that will be taken with utmost seriousness by the unbelievers in the media.

Paul, if you are not in heaven, you must be spinning in your grave.

Allow me to add something: I just read the entire press release, which says “The Bible says nothing about homosexuality.”

As Lenin said, the Big Lie can be put over more easily than the small one.

  3. Comment by Fr. John Morris on December 15, 2012 at 3:40 pm

If the critics of King James I rewrote the the Bible to make it condemn homosexuality why do all the ancient commentators agree that the Bible condemn homosexuality?

  4. Comment by J S Lang on December 17, 2012 at 5:34 pm

There is illiteracy about the Bible and Christian history in all churches, more so among liberals. That knowledge gap is just begging to be filled in with false teaching.

I guess Hell has its own Bible now too… Add it to the JW Bible, the Mormon Bible, etc.

  6. Comment by Eric Griffin on December 16, 2012 at 11:15 pm

Mormons use the King James Version of the bible and were perhaps the sole reason prop 8 passed in California, so perhaps a little respect. Even if you don’t agree with their theology.

The “scholars” who created this Bible are trolling, right?

  8. Comment by Paul Hoskins on December 13, 2012 at 2:11 pm

Check out the Amazon listing. It has “God” as author, “Jesus Christ” as contributor. No, I’m not kidding, but I wish I was.

  9. Comment by Donnie on December 13, 2012 at 4:04 pm

That leads me to believe this “Bible” is indeed a prank.

Yes, their god is Dionysus, and their Jesus Christ is Bart Ehrman’s version of Jesus Christ. They just didn’t specify.

If they really want Christianity to be “inclusive,” why not organize thieves (you can find a lot in Washington), form a loud, obnoxious pressure group, then publish a Bible that says “Thou shalt steal.” Tack on “Thou shalt commit adultery,” and we can make the faith really attractive. Heck, strip all those nasty verses out of Proverbs that condemn gossip.

  13. Comment by Gabe on December 13, 2012 at 8:59 pm

So many things to comment on regarding this evil, but I’ll limit it to two.

    1) The team that wrote this abomination mentions on numerous occasions that “no version of the Bible is perfect, ours is not perfect, we just want to take away the ammo from people who are anti-LGBT”. This is an old post-modern trick. Claim that there is no truth or that nobody has the truth (which in itself is a claim to truth). Which begs the question, why is anybody going to read this if it admittedly contains errors?

    2) This team did some pretty terrible exegesis on the verses that condemn homosexuality. Fine, I get that. They want to try to justify that which God does not approve of and would rather change God’s Word than their own hearts is their business. However, I didn’t see them try to change Christ’s words on marriage where a man leaves his mother and father to be united with his wife. So what will they do with that? Christ lays out the model for marriage (which corresponds with everything else written in the Bible on the Bible). Will they try to claim that Christ was mistaken? That he was taken out of context?

Wonder how long it takes for the UCC to adopt this version in their churches.

I notice that there are no names of actual scholars or translators connected with this piece of trash. Usually any new version of the Bible will list those names, either inside the Bible itself, or on a website. Their definition of “scholar” is probably pretty wide.

Gabe, you are probably right about the UCC adopting this as an approved version. And the Episcopalians will be right behind, probably drag in a few bishops to “bless” this new Bible.

  16. Comment by William on December 14, 2012 at 9:04 am

The editors of this piece of trash claim they are making the Bible bullet-proof from homophobic interpretation. In reality, they are attempting to make it bullet-proof from God’s truth so that they may continue to live their lives of perversion and debauchery and take as many as possible with them away from salvation. Satan is so deceptive. However, their are dire consequences for what they are doing. See Matthew 18:6 which refers to those who are babes in Christ as well as children.

  17. Comment by Fr. John W. Morris on December 17, 2012 at 6:56 pm

The Holy Fathers and the decisions of the Ecumenical Councils are quite clear that homosexual actions are sinful. The idea that the Puritans put the prohibition against homosexuality in the Bible to attack James I is just one more of many falsehoods being spread by the gay liberation movement.

  19. Comment by Paul Hoskins on December 18, 2012 at 10:25 pm

The “scholars” (for lack of a better word) have outed themselves (sorta) on Amazon’s reviews. From the day the QJB first appeared on Amazon, a couple of “reviewers” have gone on the attack against any negative review, including a review by a very bright Australian evangelical pastor who has really done his homework on the Bible verses that are known among gays as the “clobber passages.” Reading the reviews, and their comments, I sense a kind of agent provocateur mentality – goad the Christian reviewer into saying anything that can be construed as hate speech – and, believe me, pretty much anything can be construed that way. In the culture wars, truth is the first casualty.

  20. Comment by IG on December 28, 2012 at 4:10 pm

What other signs of the end do we need? Hatred and attack on christians all over the world? Natural, social, spiritual, economic, political and human disaster? wars and bloodshed even in schools and among our kids? unspeakable and abominable acts etc.Falling away, backslidding, false gods, false christs, false brethren, false teaching and teachers with their gospels of inclusion and perversion. The list is endless but one thing is sure-the one and only true and holy God is alive and will not only save as many as would come to Him sincerely but will as always make all things to work out for His glory and blessings of his people because the gates of hell cannot prevail against His church.I mean ONLY HIS CHURCH.
No matter how much we try to hide so as to escape from absolute reality, we cannot quench the voice of the truth which God the creator engraved in our conscience.
Finally, to you all who doctored the Word of God and your followers, i agree with pastor John Hagee when he said that ‘…grace cannot save or keep men saved when
they are willfully sinning against God’ and again ‘…grace does not cancel your responsibility of accountability’.

  21. Comment by Philip Welch on February 7, 2015 at 10:58 am

Notice this so called bible is a deception as Jesus warn us in Matthew Chapter 24, In the End days many false prophets will come, we will have earth quakes in different places, ( divers places is the same thing) we all have so much to be aware of these days, as scripture tells us we are in the end times yet much is still to come, many believe we will be raptured, that is another lie, Jesus said ALL these things have to come before he returns, since the beginning of time we who claim to be Christ must go thru Tribulations and trials, the end days will be no different, but as for this Queen James Bible it is not OF God but rather the god of this world who will be here even more then ever to deceive many so Be on Watch as Jesus told us to be on Guard. God bless you all and May the Love of Christ keep you safe in his presents.
